Paula Tončić (b. 1997) is a visual artist whose practice begins with traces: photographic negatives, found objects, texts and fragments of stories. Combining these with fictional elements, she builds bodies of work that take the form of installations, artist books, videos and performances. Her work examines how images, objects and stories acquire meaning through circulation, and how archives, media and institutions shape what we perceive as memory. She holds an MA in New Media and Animation from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and is currently studying at the Dirty Art Department, Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam, and at WHW Akademija. Her solo exhibitions have been presented at Galerija Manuš, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, Galerija Miroslav Kraljević and the Museum of Fine Arts in Split, as well as in independent spaces within the Zagreb Salon. She has participated in group exhibitions at MO Museum in Vilnius, MMSU in Rijeka, GLUE and Fanfare in Amsterdam, among others. Her awards include the Marina Viculin Award (2025), the MMSU Kamov Award (2024), the Grand Prix at the 37th Youth Salon (2024) and the Collector to an Artist Award (2024).
